What's new
- Amazon EC2 C7a instances are now available in the Asia Pacific (Singapore) Region.
- Instances are powered by 4th Gen AMD EPYC processors (Genoa) at up to 3.7 GHz, offering up to 50% higher performance than C6a instances.
- C7a instances support AVX-512, VNNI, and bfloat16, with DDR5 memory providing 2.25x more bandwidth than C6a.
- Maximum EBS volume attachments increased to 128, from 28 on C6a instances.
Why it matters
Expanding C7a instances to Singapore brings compute-intensive workloads to a new AWS region. The Genoa-based processors, with enhanced instruction sets like AVX-512 and higher memory bandwidth, are suited for latency-sensitive applications. The significant increase in supported EBS volumes (from 28 to 128) could simplify architectures requiring numerous block storage attachments. These instances are best considered for workloads that can leverage the improved compute and I/O, such as HPC, batch processing, and gaming servers, when regional proximity is a factor.
How to use it
C7a instances are available in 12 sizes, including bare metal, via On-Demand, Spot Instances, and Savings Plans. Access them through the AWS Management Console, CLI, or SDKs. Note that this expansion is specific to the ap-southeast-1 region.
Bottom line: EC2 C7a instances with AMD EPYC Genoa processors are now available in AWS Singapore, offering higher performance and increased EBS volume support.
